Fake vaccination card offense, nursing home audits shed light on new laws for the new year

New laws are now officially in effect in the Hudson Valley and across New York State.

Scarsdale now has a ban on smoking both cigarettes and cannabis on public property.

Police will start with warnings only for a 60-day transition period.

Effective March 1, those who smoke in public will be fined $ 100.

New York is addressing issues in nursing homes that have come to light during the pandemic.

New York is also banning styrofoam and peanut packaging this year. It does not apply to prepackaged foods.

The aim is to reduce products made from non-biodegradable materials.

The state will also work to eliminate fake vaccination cards in 2022.

New York is establishing a COVID-19 vaccination fraud task force that includes Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Roach.

The misdemeanor covers the creation, possession or sale of a fraudulent vaccination card and is punishable by up to one year in prison.

All nursing facilities will also be required to undergo an audit and comply with a new set of standards.

The assessment covers infection control, personal protective equipment, personnel and communication.

If a facility does not meet the standards, the Ministry of Health will audit continuously until the facility is in compliance.
