FHN Health Column: FHN scholarships available for students pursuing careers in healthcare

It’s back to school, and if your students have gone past the “class supply list” step at school, it’s probably also “consider choosing / preparing / paying for college”.

Last year’s pandemic shed light on the many people who are essential to healthcare today. A wide range of professions beyond the traditional roles of doctors and nurses are available for those interested in helping others.

From pharmacists to imaging technicians, registered respiratory therapists and certified nursing assistants to physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists, certified medical assistants, medical laboratory technicians, health information technology experts and social workers – every role is crucial. This is why FHN is investing to help students in the region pursue careers in healthcare through scholarships.

We are proud to offer three scholarship programs, each with different application criteria:

Healthcare scholarship program

Up to three students will receive a $ 1,000 scholarship under this program, which is open to any student residing in the FHN service area and enrolled in an accredited study program involving the following careers in healthcare. health :

  • Areas of behavioral health (clinical mental health counseling, social work)
  • Cardiac, diagnostic or vascular ultrasound
  • Certified medical assistance
  • CT technology
  • Health information management
  • Information technology (with a focus on healthcare)
  • Medical technology / CLS / MLS
  • Feeding with milk
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Pharmacy

Students interested in this scholarship must provide proof of a current GPA of 3.0 or above and submit a typed essay of approximately 500 words on “Why did you choose your career path, what did you do for it?” support and how would this benefit the service area FHN? ”A required application form and more details about the process are available at fhn.org/scholarships.

Diversity Healthcare Career Scholarship Program

A student will receive a $ 1,000 scholarship under this program, which is open to any minority student residing in the FHN service area and enrolled in an accredited study program involving the following healthcare careers. above.

Volunteer Resources Scholarship Program

A student who is an active member of the FHN Student Volunteer Program with a minimum of 40 career hours and in their final year of high school or enrolled in an accredited college with a major in a health field will receive a scholarship of 1 $ 000.

Students interested in this scholarship must provide proof of a current GPA of 3.0 or better and submit a typed essay of approximately 500 words on “How has your volunteering experience at FHN contributed to your goals. careers?” A required application form and more details on the process are available at fhn.org/scholarships.

The deadline for submitting applications and other submission documents for all scholarships is September 3. Applicants must agree to participate in the interviews with the finalists (which will take place from October to November) if they are chosen as finalists.

The scholarship winners will be announced in December and the funds will go to the college or university of the winning students to be applied towards the expenses of the spring term 2022.
